We Can Achieve Great Things If We Continue Working – Interview with Alejandra Fernández García

Alejandra Fernández García is the 2017 and 2020 Andalusian Champion. She is currently racing in the European Talent Cup (ETC) under FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship backed by Angeluss – Women Sport Management. We recently did a quick Q&A with her to hear about her journey in motorcycling. Here is Alejandra’s story.

Alejandra grew up watching her brother Javi racing, very soon she wanted to try out riding a motorcycle herself. “Since I was little, I have been in the motorcycling world because of my family. My brother competed on motorcycles. I wanted to be like him.”

Being the inspiration for Alejandra’s career, Javi also helped her become a better rider. “My support has always been my brother, he has always given me the best advice for riding a motorcycle. He competes and knows a lot about the world of motorcycles. My brother wore the number 22 and now I wear it just like him. He has always been the one who has helped me throughout my sporting career.”

I learn from any rider – rivals, schoolmates, my coach… I believe you can learn from everyone since there is always room for improvement.

Besides her brother, Alejandra also looks up to the eight-time World Champion Marc Márquez as a racing idol. “My idol since I was little has always been Marc Márquez. What I like most is his winning mentality and his way of fighting against everything.”

In 2017, eight-year-old Alejandra first became the Andalusian Champion. Then in 2020, she did it again. She also finished runner-up of Spain that year. “It was a very difficult season. But we did a very good job in that preseason and season.”

In 2022, Alejandra was racing in ESBK in the Promo3 class. However, she wasn’t able to find a ride in 2023 due to lack of funding. Luckily this season, she has Angeluss – Women Sport Management backing her up and she’s able to compete in the European Talent Cup (ETC). “My relationship with Angeluss is very good since they are like family to me. Thanks to their trust in me, I have been able to continue my sporting career. Last year I was off the bike and they solved everything for me. I am very grateful to them.”

I almost gave up motorcycling which has been my dream. It was a time of great uncertainty. I had a very bad time and was very nervous. I was distracted and couldn’t focus on riding and giving my 100% on track.

Her first ETC season hasn’t been very easy. But Alejandra continues to push and learn, striving for better results. “The category is very difficult but I’m learning a lot. My biggest challenge is to qualify. Next season I hope to continue with this project. I believe we can achieve great things if we continue working.”

During the race weekend, I try to stay focused and psych myself up. It helps me a lot to be inside the box and talk to my telemeter. If I need moments of relaxation, I go to my motorhome and I like to stay there alone.

Right now, 15-year-old Alejandra is still a middle school student. Balancing her school work and her racing career hasn’t been easy. But she manages both quite well. “It takes a lot of time to ride the bike and achieve the goals I’ve set for myself. But I have been doing well at school.”
